DAET, Camarines Norte, Feb. 25 (PIA) – To mark the upcoming women’s month with the formation of a more united front to achieve equality and development, the Municipal Council of Women of Daet (MCWD) underwent reorganization last week.
The event allowed the council members to elect a new set of officers.
Lawyer Lourdes Clarissa Donatilla Cu of the Junior Chamber International is the new president, Malyn Naing of Soroptomist is the vice president, while SPO1 Rosalinda Tenso of Philippine National Police is the secretary.
Maria Andrea Apuya of Rural Health Unit will serve as the treasurer while Rosalita Manlangit of the Philippine Information Agency takes the role of public information officer.
The outgoing president, Myrna Deligero of CNTV, will serve as the ex-officio member.
With the reorganization, the MCWD was expected to be more active as partner of the municipal government in policy-making to achieve gender equality and development in Daet.
The MCWD adopted the various activities lined up by the municipal government in observance of the women’s month in March.
Rosa Mia L. King, chair of the committee on women and children in the municipal council of Daet, said the proposed activities include bloodletting drive where some women will shed blood for the Red Cross, screening of the outstanding women of Daet and the consequent awarding rites to honor 10 of them, women’s congress, livelihood trainings for workers in entertainment pubs and hanging of streamers.
Women’s Month is a longer version of International Women's Day, a holiday commemorated world wide to honor working women and women’s struggle everywhere.
According to the World Economic Forum, the Philippines ranks 5 out of 136 countries with the narrowest gender gap or the least gender disparity. (RBM-PIA5/Camarines Norte)
