Red Cross lauds police exec for his ‘Dugo Mo, Regalo Mo’

BY EDNA A. BAGADIONG

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb. 24, (PIA)- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) here has commended the top policeman in this island-province for supporting the agency’s blood donation campaign in the island.

Just recently, PNP Provincial Director Adelio Benjamin Castillo marked his birthday last Feb. 14 with a bloodletting drive that collected a total of 28 bags of blood.

Instead of arranging candles, wine and scrumptious food in tables, Castillo set up blood donation center at the multi-purpose hall of the PNP provincial headquarters in cooperation  with the PRC, the mlitary and the Bureau of Fire Protection .

Billed as “Dugo Mo, Regalo Mo,” the bloodletting drew volunteers from the Philippine Army’s 83rd Infantry Battalion, Virac Fire Station, Catanduanes Police Provincial office, the Police Public Safety Company and the 11 municipal police stations. Twelve policemen, six soldiers, and two firemen shed blood.

Instead of gifting the celebrant with cash or precious items, guests were requested to donate blood or cash to defray the blood processing fee of P1,500 per bag.

As of this writing, cash donations totaled P23,500, according to PRC chapter here.

Red Cross chapter administrator Reymund Reginaldo described Castillo’s initiative as “remarkable,” saying “it would be very helpful to indigent patients” at the Eastern Bicol Medical Center and other local hospitals.

Castillo, who himself shed blood for the donation drive, thanked the guests for their kindness and participation in the activity. (EAB/PIA Catanduanes/CT)
