Comelec proclaims new elected leaders of Sorsogon

SORSOGON CITY, May 11 (PIA) – The Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBC) of Sorsogon officially proclaimed yesterday, May 10, the winners of the 2016 election provincial posts in the province of Sorsogon.

Former provincial administrator Robert Lee Rodrigueza won as governor with a vote of 135,191 equivalent to 44.92% of the total votes.  Rodrigueza and will replace his father Gov. Raul R. Lee as governor who did not run anymore in the same post to give way to his son.

For the vice-gubernatorial race, incumbent Casiguran Mayor Ma. Ester Hamor won over a landslide victory with 206,066 or 71.75% of the total votes against her opponent, incumbent Vice-Governor Antonio “Kruni” Escudero, Sr.

The province of Sorsogon, divided in two congressional districts has 14 municipalities and lone city with a total registered voters of 425,025.

Provincial Certificate of Canvass issued by the Comelec bared that of the total number of registered voters, 363,980 or an equivalent of 85.63% have actually voted. As per record, no ballots were rejected by the Vote Counting Machines (VCMs).

For the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the new set of board members will be composed of incumbent board members Jun Escudero (ranked 1st) and Becky Aquino (2nd), neophyte Ryan Dioneda (3rd), incumbent board member Eric Ravanilla (4th) and incumbent Sorsogon City East District Councilor Peter Ravanilla.

The first district is composed of six (6) municipalities including Sorsogon City with 213,458 registered voters. Total number of registered voters who actually voted were 180,374, equivalent to an 84.50% voter’s turn-out.

For the second congressional district, proclaimed new composition of board members will be incumbent Board Members Arze Glipo (ranked 1st) and Joey Guban (2nd), incumbent Bulan Mayor Marnelie Robles (3rd), Benedict Hao (4th), the son of incumbent Board Member Bong Hao who passed away before election date due to illness, and former Juban Mayor Ma. Teresa Fragata (5th).

The second district is composed of nine (9) municipalities with 211,567 registered voters. The total number of registered voters who actually voted were 183,606 or an equivalent 86.78% voter’s turn-out.

Unopposed Rep. Evelina “Nanay Evie’ Escudero, mother of Sen Chiz Escudero will still be the representative of the first dstrict of Sorsogon to the 17th Congress of the Philippines, while incumbent second district of Sorsogon Rep. Deogracias “Ding” Ramos garnered a total of 111,608 votes, equivalent to 70.34% of the total number of voters who actually voted.

Meanwhile, Comelec Sorsogon headed by acting election supervisor Atty. Maria Aurea C. Bo-Bunao, said that they will release the official Certificate of Canvass for the 14 municipalities and Sorsogon City mid next week.

The Comelec, PNP, Philippine Army and DepEd were unanimous in saying that 2016 election in Sorsogon was generally peaceful. (MAL/BAR-PIA5/Sorsogon)
