Albayanos thankful for infra projects under Aquino administration

LEGAZPI CITY, May 6 (PIA) – President Benigno Aquino III led yesterday the inauguration of at least P380M worth of infrastructure projects in this city conveying at the same time his gratitude for the Albayanos who supported him and his governance programs throughout his administaration that is about to conclude less than two month from now.

The P83.5 million widened Yawa Bridge in barangay Rawis and the P296.3 million Tibu Pumping Station in barangay San Roque are just two of the major infra projects implemented in the province of Albay under Aquino administration, together with the P3.4B worth Bicol International Airport in barangay Alobo, Daraga Albay.

The President likewise expressed his gratitude to the Albayanos for supporting his administration citing the increased budget allocation for the province in terms of infrastructure, from P4.3 billion in 2010 to P21.8B from 2011 to 2016.

I am thankful to all of you for supporting my administration.  Back in 2005 to 2010, P4.3B was allocated to the province of Albay in terms of infrastructure. From 2011 – 2016, under my administration, 21.8B was given to Albay without raising taxes so that was still your money,” Aquino said.

The Albayanos in turn, expressed their appreciation for the programs implemented particularly for the newly inaugurated infra projects in Legazpi City.

“Thanks to President Aquino for giving importance to cities in provinces.  Let us be united to continue the good programs in this city,” Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal said.

Rosal joined the President for the inauguration together with Albay Governor Joey Salceda, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Ramon Paje.

Joselito Martinez, Barangay San Roque Chairman, lauded the present administration for the comprehensive infra programs responding to the needs of the city particularly of their barangay.

“We have felt the positive changes under the present administration. The national government has assisted us to respond to the needs of our constituents through the Bottom Up Budgeting (BUB) wherein financial assistance is downloaded to the provinces and cities outside Metro Manila,” Martinez said.

The construction of the Tibu Pumping Station is part of the Legazpi City Urban Drainage Improvement Project conceptualized to solve the perennial flooding in the commercial district and nearby resident areas in and around the city by keeping the sea water from encroaching inland and discharging run-ff storm water directly to the sea.

“The pumping station in our barangay is an effective response to our flooding problems prompted by improper garbage disposal. This project has the capability to segregate garbage from flood water for easier water discharge. So we are assured that even in times of heavy rain, the water level will easily go down,” he said.

“With the new pumping station, Legazpi City is now an all-weather city in the province,” Martinez added.

The Yawa Bridge, expanded from two-lane to four lane highway, is the primary bridge connecting the northern barangays of Legazpi City to the central business district. The widening of the bridge is intended to ease traffic congestion and provide convenience to the riding public and facilitate easy means of transporting marine and agricultural products and other basic services.

The expanded Yawa Bridge has likewise responded to the problems on traffic congestion due to increased population in our city. We now have wider and faster flow of traffic.  We are assured that it will not be easily damaged as it was properly and efficiently constructed,” Martinez said.

Albayano netizens likewise lauded the present administration for the improvements in infrastructure in the province.(MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
