Albay names top 10 schools in 2015 National Achievement Test

LEGAZPI CITY, May 13 (PIA) – The provincial government of Albay honored teachers and education partners in the province through the Titsers’ Nyt: Gay Palcon Achievement Award Ceremony held yesterday at the Albay Astrodome.

Now on its 9th year, the awarding ceremony highlights the recognition of top performing schools in the 2015 National Achievement Test (NAT) by subject areas and by overall mean point scores.

NAT is a set of examinations administered by the Department of Education (DepEd) for students in grade 6, 10, and 12. Students are given national standardized test designed to determine their academic levels, strength and weaknesses. The test is divided into 5 subject areas; English, Filipino, Math, Science and Social Studies.

Around 135 awardees coming from all over the province received cash awards, plaques and certificates during the formal ceremony.

The Top 10 Best Performing Schools to get awards are Legazpi Port Elementary School (ES),  Sto. Domingo Central School, Ligao West CES in Binatagan (Big Schools, Grade VI), Buga ES, Upper Bonga ES, Hindi ES (Medium Schools, Grade VI), Dapdap ES (Tiwi), Pinagbadilan ES, Busay ES (Small Schools, Grade VI) and San Agustin IS of Libon for Medium Schools, Year IV.

Overall, Albay placed 35th in the NAT this year which has been a big leap from being 177th in 2007.

Re-elected Board Member (BM)  Richard Benjamin Imperial, the Chairman on Education of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Albay, recalled in his message his first dialogue with Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda when he assumed office in 2013, noting the strict conditions given by the governor on his chairmanship of the said Committee.

“The Governor told me to never decrease the budget of education, in fact, see to it that it gets bigger, he also asked me to create long term plans for education in Albay where the momentum created will continue to grow,” BM Imperial said.

Imperial added that each year, Albay provides a minimum of 30 million pesos to deliver assistance to Albayanos for higher education, noting that the PGA also provides assistance to teachers who wants to further their education, ensuring that the quality of education in Albay progresses.

Outgoing Senior Board Member Glenda Ong Bongao, speaking in behalf of Vice-Governor Harold Ong Imperial, said that “the award ceremony is more than just honoring our beloved teachers, but it also represents the years of persistent and dedicated efforts of educators which forms the mold of the future for Albayano youth.”

“Tonight, we honor our teachers for all the preparation and hard work that you do each day and each night, and we, the PGA, would like to thank you for bringing dignity to your noble profession worthy of all the praises heaped upon you,” BM Bongao said.

The Titser's Nyt (Gay Falcon Achievement Awards Ceremony) is an institutional program of the PGA through the Provincial Education Department that was started in 2007 under Governor Joey Sarte Salceda. (MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
