Albay preparations for Palarong Pambasa 2016 in final stages

LEGAZPI CITY, Mar 14 (PIA) – Albay is nearly 100 percent ready in hosting this year’s Palarong Pambansa.

In the reports given by different chairman of the sub-committees during the final technical conference held last week, the preparations needed are in final stages from billeting of the participants to rehabilitation and construction of sporting venues.

Representatives from the provincial government of Albay, Department of Education (DepEd) Bicol and other line agencies and stakeholders such as tournament managers and representatives from different regions gathered at the technical conference held at the DepEd Regional Center to discuss further concerns and technical needs for the staging of the Palarong Pambansa in the province.

The DepEd reported that schools from different cities and municipalities are nearly prepared for the billeting of the tens of thousands of participants in the said venue.

The sporting venues on the other hand ate nearly available for use as the Provincial Engineering Office speeds up the construction and rehabilitation projects.

The Bicol University oval track, where majority of the competition will be held, has undergone major makeover and is 90 percent done. Other sporting venues are likewise catching up with the deadline.

Tournament managers and representatives from different regions all over the country also shared their inputs on different matters needed to ensure smooth and efficient hosting of the Palarong Pambansa 2016.

Participants in the conference visited the sporting venues and billeting schools to make ocular inspections for further preparations and renovations.

Governor Joey Sarte Salceda, who worked hard to win the bidding for the prestigious annual sporting event, said in his message that this is one of his dreams for the province of Albay.

Salceda noted that hosting the Palarong Pambansa 2016 will once again put Albay in the forefront and boost its image as a force in the tourism front with sports tourism being added in the forefront of its marketing system.

Albay won the bidding for hosting Palarong Pambansa 2016 as the province was deemed one of the most accommodating and prepared LGU, which has won many accolades during the three terms of Governor Joey Sarte Salceda.(SAA/PGA/PIA5/Albay)
