DTI Bicol alert up vs uncertified products

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov 3 (PIA) –Department of Trade and Industry Bicol director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco initiated the destruction of uncertified products amounting to more P200,000.00 to highlight the closing of the Consumer Welfare Month celebration.

“I encourage consumers to patronize quality products that comply with standards set by the Bureau of Philippine Standrads (BPS) of DTI”, Blanco said.  

Most of the products are electrical appliances, bulbs, CFLs, electrical tapes, lighters, and christmas lights.

It was surrendered by 37 establishments that likewise paid a total fine of about four million pesos for violating the Product Standards Law.

Blanco noted the possible damages that these products can cause and has alerted the consuming public not to buy cheap, unsafe, and uncertified products.

Destruction of the said uncertified products was held at the Penaranda Park, Albay District on October 29, 2015.

There are numerous benefit that consumers, manufacturers and traders get from product certification.

For manufacturers, it enhances competitiveness of products in domestic and export markets and improves company sales and profitability

For traders, it improves reputation as a source of quality products, attracts quality-conscious buyers and strengthens buyer’s confidence in a product leading to increased sales

Consumers on the other hand are assured of product quality, safety, and reliability.(SAA/DTI5-PIA5/Albay)
