Albay's Search for Outstanding Principals on

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug 18 (PIA) – The Search and Awards Committee (SAC) of the Albay Council for Education (ACE) has retained the category for outstanding principals of the Gawad Albay sa Edukasyon program with ten successful nominees considered for the award.

The committee has earlier suspended the Three Outstanding Principals in the Countryside of Albay (TROPICAL) award since it only received eight nominations, falling below the minimum ten nominations, but Albay governor Joey Salceda vetoed the said decision insisting that the committee should exert extra efforts to locate and convince deserving awardees to participate in the annual search.

With the retention of the award and through the committee’s diligent efforts, four more nominees were added coming from the Ligao and Tabaco divisions, which earlier did not field any nominees.

The TROPICAL pool of nominees even reached 12 but the other two nominees did not meet the set of requirements.

Albay board member and committee on education chair Richard Benjamin Imperial said that the proposed scrapping of the TROPICAL was due to the fact that many principals from Albay find production and submission of the requirements too tedious while others have already been conferred with the award. Thus the number of legible candidates is dwindling.

“There may come a time when TROPICAL may become an All-Star event, we would be pitting past winners against each other,” Imperial said.
