Albay guv leads Team Albay in quest for Galing Pook citation

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 27 (PIA) - Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda will lead the Team Albay in the province's quest anew for the prestigious Galing Pook award in the panel presentation and interview slated this coming August 31, 2015 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Albay, which earlier already bagged a Galing Pook award for disaster management in 2009, claimed a highly coveted spot in the finalist roster for the Team Albay Humanitarian Assistance Program this year

Team Albay is composed of various members coming from the different departments of the Provincial Government of Albay, representatives from several units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, national government agencies and other stakeholders.

The team has been lauded for their quick action and response to the needs of people who have suffered from various predicaments, one instance of which Team Albay was among the first responder to the victims of the Yolanda Typhoon tragedy.

In the schedule provided by the organizers, Team Albay will be the first to present with ten minutes allotted for each presentation, this will be followed immediately by the interview which too shall be allotted ten minutes.

This year, 16 finalists have been chosen to do the presentation and interview.

Ten outstanding programs shall be selected from the 16 finalists and be awarded the honor the next day, September 1, at the same venue.

Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office head Dr. Cedric Daep, expressed confidence in the chances of Team Albay stating in an interview that there is a big chance that the award will be granted.

Aside from the presentation panel and interview, the Galing Pook foundation shall also hold a governance fair at the same venue from August 30 to September 1, where Albay will have its own booth exhibiting Team Albay’s programs and the province’s products.

The governance fair, dubbed Mamamayan Mamamayani, will include activities such as a unity walk, booth exhibits, talks/forums/workshops, cultural shows, and of course, the presentation and interview, and the awarding ceremonies.

The Galing Pook Awards is a pioneering program that recognizes innovations and excellence in local governance which started in 1993 under the joint initiative of the Local Government Academy, Department of Interior and Local Government, the Ford Foundation and other advocates of good governance from the academe, civil society and the government.  (MAL/PIO-PGA/PIA5/Albay)
