Albay cited local governments, school in 2015 Best in Nutrition Awards

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 28 (PIA) --  The provincial government of Albay has cited city and municpal governments, barangays, schools and individuals which have achieved exemplary feat in the implementation of nutrition programs, projects and policies in their respective areas of responsibilities

The Provincial Nutrition Office (PNO) stated that among those conferred with the 2015 Best in Nutrition Awards were the municipality of Oas, Barangay Maporong in Oas town, Camalig North District in Camalig town and Taysan Elementary School in Legazpi City topping in the LGU, Barangay, School District, and School categories, respectively.

Governor Salceda, in a message convey by provincial administrator Jesap Salceda, said that the celebration was apt in time for the celebration of Nutrition Month coupled with the Buwan ng Wika noting that education and nutrition goes hand in hand.

Salceda said in FILIPINO that the youth is the key to the success and development of the province of Albay and it is essential that we not only feed their minds but also their bodies.

“Kailangan po nating pangalagaan ang kanilang kalusugan, ngunit hindi po sapat na mabusog lamang ang mga bata, kelangan sila ay pakainin ng mga pagkaing puno ng nutrisyon upang ang kanilang katawan ay may lakas na harapin ang araw at ang utak nila ay may kakayahang tanggapin ang kanilang matututunan,” Salceda read.

In the same message, Governor Salceda called on the leaders of the stakeholders to extend the knowledge in nutrition to the students’ families so that they will be able to sustain regularly the nutrition programs that are currently being implemented.

Other winners were 1st Runner-Up -- Tabaco City (LGU), Bagumbayan, Tiwi (Barangay), Camalig South District (School District) and Tumpa Elementary School of Camalig North (School).

The 2nd Runner-Up winners were Guinobatan (LGU), Bacolod, Tabaco (Barangay), Tiwi District (School District) and Bariis Elementary School of Tiwi (School).

For the 3rd Runner-Up, Ligao City (LGU), Bay, Ligao (Barangay), Tabaco South District (School District) and Alimsog Elementary School of Sto. Domingo (School).

And the 4th Runner-Up clinchers were : Camalig (LGU), Villahermosa, Daraga and San Andres, Sto. Domingo (Barangay), Malinao District (School District) and Albay Central School of Legazpi City (School).

The awards were conferred to the winners chosen for effectively implementing sound nutrition programs in their respective levels, vigorously pursuing their nutrition initiatives as well as sustaining them to ensure higher nutritional status of the populace.  (MAL-PIA5/Albay)
