NAGA CITY, Mar. 11 (PIA)--- In unison with other women in the various nooks and corners of the world, the office of 3rd District Representative Hon. Leni G. Robredo spearheaded the Advocacy Walk here, Monday as a kick off activity to the 2nd Asenso Tercer Distrito Trade and Jobs Fair in celebration of the International Women’s day.
Dubbed 2loy² sa Asenso Tercer Distrito, the program is a rallying call of the partnership between the people of the 3rd District of the province and Robredo on its quest for an empowered citizenry, particularly of the women sector. It consists of livelihood programs and packages that endeavor to uphold the dignity and self-worth of a Bicolano family.
The Congressional Office of Robredo in close coordination with The Naga City Women’s Council (NCWC) and other civic, government and non-government organizations successfully staged this year the Asenso Tercer Distrito program that aims not only to empower women but uplift the economic status of its constituents.
Forty-four (44) local companies and nine (9) international corporations responded to the call and took part in the two-day jobs fair. Government agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), TESDA, PhilHealth, DSWD and AFP among others.
Various local government units also showed their support by installing their booths inside the JMR Coliseum. The booth also served as a display center where the town’s One-Town-One Product (OTOP) merchandises were showcased. LGU’s Magarao, Bombon, Canaman, Pili, Naga City, Camaligan , Ocampo and Calabanga were among the active partakers during the event. The booths were manned by Lakas Kababaihan members coming from the said municipalities.
During the first day of the event, an Entrepreneurship Camp was staged with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at the helm. DTI Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist and Coordinator of Negosyo Center Jay Percival S. Ablan, as part of the camp[‘s program gave the talk on Formalizing the home-based business.
Mary Adelyn Tecson of Gawad Kalinga also shared her thoughts on Community Building through Entrepreneurship while Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. representatives Edgardo Veron Cruz and Pamela Castro discussed Agricultural Entrepreneurship.
Before capping the first day, TESDA spearheaded the graduation of the beneficiaries of the agency’s Special Training for Employment (STEP). Tool kits were also distributed to the graduates. It was immediately followed by the Solidarity night and was attended by the various stakeholders.
The second and last day of the event was highlighted with the continuation of the Jobs Fair and the Entrepreneurship Camp. After which, the Plenary Open Forum was conducted.
Robredo’s Livelihood Program is just one of the four development dimensions for the district, in addition to health, education, and agriculture. It endeavors among others to increase of family income of her constituents, especially that of the 48% of the households living on or below the poverty threshold. (LSMacatangay, PIAV/Camarines Sur)
