DPWH Sorsogon I DEO to inaugurate its new, state-of-the art office building

SORSOGON CITY, March 11, 2015 (PIA) – "Friday the 13th" is considered by many as unlucky day of the year surrounded with superstitions surrounding the day, but for personnel of the Sorsogon I District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) March 13, Friday, will be one of their most fortunate time as they set the inauguration and blessing of their new, state-of-the art office building.

The new two-storey building in Brgy. Guinlajon in this city has been already completed with a total project cost of P 28,792,000 charged to the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2014.

The CTC Builder & Supplies, Inc. has carried out the construction and completed in December 2014.

Likewise, the P3 M worth of additional improvement for site development, perimeter fence and landscaping contracted by Roda Construction & General Supply was also completed first week of this month.

DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson is expected to lead the unveiling of the new facility and to keynote the inauguration ceremony.

Singson will be joined by Sen. Francis Joseph G. Escudero, Sorsogon I District Rep. Evelina G. Escudero, Gov. Raul R. Lee and Mayor Sally A. Lee in the  ribbon cutting and the unveiling of the building marker.

According to District Engineer Ignacio T. Odiaman, the new two-storey DPWH Office Building adopting the standard plan as per DO No. 81, series of 2012, was constructed as a replacement to the old, semi-permanent and half-wooden office building constructed in the late 1960’s.

“This is to provide a better, quality, and secured workplace that can withstand calamities to avoid loss of life, government resources and properties of Sorsogon First District Engineering Office,” he said.

“The construction was also in line with the Department’s policy to continuously improve the delivery of its services, per D.O, No. 91- Implementation of Quality Workplace Standards,” Engr. Odiaman also said.

“With the new office building, our apprehension will be abated should there be a major calamity in our province that may totally destroy our present office building,” Engr. Odiaman said.

Engr. Odiaman By virtue of Special Order No. 79 dated 02 July 2013, was assigned as the new District Engineer of this Office vice Engr. Romeo D. Doloiras who was reassigned to Catanduanes DEO.

Meanwhile, guided by the overall policy directive of President Benigno S. Aquino lll “Tuwid Na Landas,” and the DPWH Reforms initiated by Secretary Rogelio L. Singson under the “DPWH Transformation Framework,” the DPWH Sorsogon 1st DEO committed itself to continuously transform the organization and its employees, simplify/innovate to reduce corruption and improve efficiency, and optimize available resources.

At present, DPWH Sorsogon First DEO’s workforce has close to a hundred personnel composed of permanent itemized positions, employees on Co-terminus status, casual employees, employees detailed from the Area Equipment Services, employees on floating status charged to Maintenance Fund and job order employees.
