300 4Ps beneficiaries to get multi-skills training in Bicol U

LEGAZPI CITY, Mar 17 (PIA) – Some 300 4Ps beneficiaries in the Bicol region will undergo six month multi-skills training set by the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD) at the Bicol University College of Industrial Technology (BUCIT).

The said training is under DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Multi-Skills Training Program which aims to improve the socio-economic capacities of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries by facilitating their access to micro enterprise development and employment opportunities.

 “We want to provide a sustainable intervention to improve the well-being of Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries by empowering the disadvantaged individuals through skills training assistance and entrepreneurial activities towards gainful employment “said DSWD Regional Director Arnel Garcia.

Each trainee has P 20,000 allocation for the six-month training beginning June this year.

The short term training programs to be conducted are Troubleshooting and Repair of Household Appliances, Basic Welding and Home Mechanics, Defensive Auto Driving, Gas Engine Servicing and Hauling, Motorcycle Servicing, Basic and Advance Bread and Pastry Production 7. Bread and Pastry Production, Food processing, Construction of men’s and ladies’ apparel, Rough Masonry, Beauty Care, Silk Screen Printing and Vinyl Sticker cutting and Practical Electricity.

To ensure sustainability, Garcia said each trainee will be provided by DSWD with a livelihood kit to start up their own business or self-employment venture.

Post-training assistance will be provided by the university to help trainees in further honing their skills.

The 4Ps is a poverty reduction and social development strategy of the national government that provides conditional cash grants to “poorest of the poor” households to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged 0-14 years.

The Sustainable Livelihood Program on the other hand is a multi‐stakeholder program that aims to improve the socio‐economic status of 4Ps beneficiaries to generate greater impact on the government’s poverty reduction efforts.(MAL/SAA/DSWD5/PIA5/Albay)
