Firecracker related injuries decrease in Camarines Norte – DOH

DAET, Camarines Norte, Jan. 7 (PIA) – The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a decreased of firecracker related injuries in Camarines Norte during the Christmas holidays .

DOH HEPO designate head Marie Ann B. Rivera said that 13 cases were recorded from December 21, 2014 to January 5 this year as compared to 18 cases of the same period in 2013.

She said that Daet town has posted six cases; Basud, Mercedes, and Vinzons has two cases each and Jose Panganiban with one.

 Rivera cited that most of the cases were caused by piccolo with nine injuries while kwitis, fountain, five star and watusi with one case each.

 She also said that most of the diagnoses were blast burn and were sent home after the treatment. There was no mortality and tetanus case due to firecracker incident, she said.

 Earlier to this the DOH along with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) has intensified their campaign against firecrackers through their program Aksiyon Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) with the theme “Mahalaga ang Buhay Iwasan ang Paputok”, she said.

 The provincial DOH team has distributed information materials regarding the APIR campaign along with the health tips among local government units of the 12 municipalities of this province and radio plugs to six (6) radio stations here. (MAL/RBM-PIA5/CamNorte)
