U.S. Ambassador to Open Bicol’s First Special Olympics

LEGAZPI CITY, July 11 (PIA) -- U.S. Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg will open the first Special Olympics in Albay during a ceremony on July 14, 8:00 am, at  the Bicol University Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation Track and Field here.

Joining the Ambassador will be Governor Joey S. Salceda, Bicol University President Dr. Faye Lauraya, mayors of various towns in the province, Peace Corps Philippines Director Denny Robertson and Peace Corps Volunteers, and Special Olympics Philippines Director Kaye Samson.

At Bicol University, Ambassador Goldberg will deliver remarks at the conclusion of a forum on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

Guests include experts from the academe, local government units, and non-governmental organizations.  The forum will begin promptly at 2:15 p.m. at the Conference Room of the Climate Change Academy.

The U.S. Embassy meanwhile has invited all media interested in covering the Special Olympics and the forum afterwards.

Following his participation in the Special Olympics, Ambassador Goldberg will have a brief media pull-aside interview at 10:15 a.m. behind the grandstand.  (MAL-PIA5/Albay)
