Pili local government sets priorities on education

BY: ANA-LIZA S. MACATANGAY

PILI, Camarines Sur, July 11 (PIA) --- Among its top priorities, the municipal government here will put emphasis on the prominence of education to uplift the lives of his constituents.

This was reiterated by Pili Mayor Alexis San Luis III during the 1st Pili Education Summit held recently at the Pili Cultural and Sports Complex.

“The future lies in the ability of the children and the youth to take the cudgels of development. We must exert effort in providing good and quality education to our young people to ensure that they become productive citizens of our municipality and are provided the opportunity to realize their potentials to the maximum,” San Luis stated.

Included in the town’s development framework are innovative approaches to increase access to affordable education. This will be topped with infrastructure projects for proper education service delivery.

Three weeks ago, LGU Pili started the construction of the National Child Development Center situated at Barangay Anayan, this town.  The center will serve as a national learning center which endeavors to introduce best practices of the integrated early childhood care and development services to selected 0 to 4 year old recipients.

The center will also house a laboratory where research and innovations about early childhood development will be conducted.  It aims to enhance parenting skills and at the same time increase the level or capabilities of the educators.

The high-tech day Day care room which costs P2.3M is equipped with modern facilities to give children the optimal exposure to learning.

With the indigents in mind, San Luis ordered the strict implementation of a NO Collection policy to all 31 elementary schools situated in various parts of the municipality.  San Luis pointed out that although public education itself is free the parents still have to take the burden of paying the miscellaneous fees. Togas and medals are also given free by the LGU during graduation.

LGU Pili’s Local School Board Plan has allotted P3.5M as educational assistance for High School and College students and offers vocational trainings in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

LGU Pili Public Information Officer Carlos Arejola also relayed to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that the local engineering office in their municipality has also undertaken the construction of classrooms, including repairs and improvement of daycare centers, multi-purpose rooms and classrooms.  Over 10 education-related infrastructure projects were funded from Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARCP) and Comprehensive Development Plan which benefited more than 10 barangays.

“Even before I sworn into office, it has been my dream that policies and programs addressing the concerns of children and youth must be given priority for us to take pride in pursuing a truly meaningful development of our municipality and our people,” San Luis added.

San Luis believes that it is only through education that the younger generation becomes disciplined citizens and for them to be counted as members of the labor force with skills and capabilities at par with their counterpart. (LSM-PIA5/CamSur)
