P35.3M worth of assistance given to typhoon victims in Bicol – DSWD

LEGAZPI CITY, July 23 (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported today the cost of assistance provided for the victims of Typhoon Glenda that ravaged the Bicol Region last week now totaled to P35,306,708.79 based on their latest record.

DWSD – Bicol Regional Director Arnel Garcia in his report submitted to Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman, stated that the amount is broken down as P29.847 from DSWD, P5.410M from the local government units (LGUs) and P48,630 from the private sector.

According to Garcia’s report, Camarines Sur received the biggest assistance from DSWD totaling P24,053,491.10 followed by Albay with P2,037,575 and Sorsogon with P1,977,115.15.

DSWD also provided assistance to other Bicol provinces broken down as P654,080 for Camarines Norte, P650,000 for Masbate, and P475,000 for Catanduanes.

Meanwhile, LGU – Masbate provided a total of P1,684,453.98 worth of assistance to its constituents followed by LGU - Albay with  P1,643,627.68 and Camarines Sur with P1,079,563.84.

LGU – Sorsogon’s assistance totaled to P976,171.99 and LGU – Catanduanes released P27,000.00 worth of assistance. DSWD has yet to receive the report from LGU – Camarines Norte, Garcia said.

The assistance given to typhoon victims were family food packs each containing 3 kilos of rice, 5 packs of noodles, 4 cans sardines, 2 cans corn beef and 8 sachets of 3 in 1 coffee worth P269.30 good for a family of 5 members.

The LGUs utilized their calamity funds and the DSWD augmented the assistance once their calamity funds are exhausted.

Garcia also reported that 468,174 families and 2,003,605 individuals were affected by the typhoon. Further, there were 134,835 partially damaged houses and 33,898 totally damaged houses in the entire Bicol Region as of today based on Garcia’s report.

Camarines Sur reported 194,161 families and 742,878 individuals affected by the typhoon followed by Sorsogon with 121,796 families and 576,974 individuals affected then Albay with 110,527 families and 501,460 individuals.

There were 28,452 families and 116,504 persons affected in Camarines Norte, 9,170 families and 45,538 individuals in Masbate and 4,068 families and 20,251 persons in Catanduanes affected by the typhoon.

Meanwhile, Camarines Sur reported 85,022 partially-damaged and 23,717 totally damaged houses, Albay with 19,920 partially damaged and 4,775 totally damaged houses and Sorsogon with 17,244 partially damaged and 3,677 totally damaged houses.

Camarines Norte recorded 11,169 partially damaged and 1,167 totally damaged houses, Catanduanes with 863 partially damaged and 98 totally damaged houses while Masbate has 617 partially damaged and 14 totally damaged houses as of today. (MAL/JJP-PIA5)
