LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 12 (PIA) – A total of 145,059 families in Bicol region were affected, five dead and 21 injured by the super typhoon Yolanda last Friday, according to reports from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) regional office here.
OCD Bicol regional director Raffy Alejandro, also chair of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), reported that 708,464 persons were evacuated, most of which were from Albay with 533,673 persons or equivalent to 145,825 families.
Alejandro added that Sorsogon province registered 23,551 families or 95,691 persons at evacuation centers while Camarines Sur recorded 9,177 families or 42,956 persons. Masbate reported that 20,521 persons or 4,501 families were displaced or lost their homes due to typhoon Yolanda. The province of Catanduanes recorded 390 families or 2,563 person displaced by the typhoon. Camarines Norte evacuated 2,317 families or 11,341 persons. Meanwhile in Naga City, 298 families or 1,719 persons were evacuated at evacuation centers.
Masbate, the director said, still has evacuees totaling 4,667 affected families or 21,319 persons as of 8:00 a.m. of November 11.
Storm surges also affected the towns of Presentacion, Sagñay and San Jose all in the province of Camarines Sur.
OCD Bicol report also showed that 120 houses in Precentacion were totally destroyed and 109 were partially damaged. In Sangay, 40 houses were partially destroyed and 10 houses in San Jose were partially damaged.
A tornado was also reported at Sitio Busaing of Barangay Homestead in the town of Siruma in Camarines Sur that totally damaged four houses.
Landslides were also reported in the boundaries of Lagonoy and Presentacion towns in Camarines Sur due to heavy rains.
OCD Bicol reports recorded five casualties, four of them are in Masbate and 1 in Camarines Norte. Those who suffered injuries were 21 persons of which, 10 were from Camarines Sur, six from Sorsogon and five from Masbate.
It also reported that a total of 215 houses were totally damaged and 227 houses were partially damaged in the entire Bicol Region due to typhoon Yolanda.
As of 10 a.m. of November 11, damage to agriculture was estimated at 174,762,666.99 affecting 4,005 famers, OCD-Bicol reported. (MAL/JJJP-PIA5/Albay)
