Waste water treatment facility for smale scale mining inaugurated in Camarines Norte

DAET, Camarines Norte, Sept. 12 (PIA) –The first wastewater treatment facility in Bicol of the Elnar Gold Processing (EGP) plant was inaugurated Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Sta. Rosa Norte, Jose Panganiban, in this province.

EGP is a small-scale gold processing plant which caters to the small scale miners of Jose Panganiban and Paracale of this province since 2009.

The processing plant costs P1.5 million aside from the existing wall used for the construction of the facility according to Leon Zancho Mago, environmental consultant, accredited by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environment and Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).

The inauguration was headed by Engr. Roberto D. Sheen, regional director of the DENR-EMB wherein he lauded the owner of the EGP Analyn Angeles who did her effort for the construction the wastewater treatment facility.

He also urged other processing plant owners to cooperate in order to sustain the cleanliness of the environment.

He cited that he did a lot of ways to meet the owners of the gold processing plant to convince them for the proper waste disposal as requirements of the environmental compliance.
Sheen also vision’s Paracale to be like “Boracay” in terms of tourist arrival, wherein people will come to buy gold.

Elpidio Orata, provincial environment and natural resources officers said that the wastewater treatment facility is a great help to process waste from the processing of gold to a clean one in 20 minutes.

He said that the clean water will help revive the dead river in the barangay.

Orata said that the project will served as a model for those who want to construct wastewater facility in the mining areas.

He said that this is good news for Camarines Norte as compared to bad images projected on illegal mining.
Engr. Mago, on the other hand discussed the process of wastewater treatment using equipments and chemicals and the output of clean water to meet the standards of the DENR.

He said that the treated water can be recycle or dischardge to the vetiver wetland for conditioning prior to the release to the environment.

Earlier a holy mass was held by Fr. Joel Villania, Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity while the ribbon cutting of the facility was led by Engr. Sheen together with Angeles, Mago, local officials of the barangay and the municipal government. (MAL/RBM-PIA5/Camarines Norte)
