DepEd holds first int'l research conference on K +12 curriculum in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug 27 (PIA) -- More than 1000 local researchers, educators and international observers from United Kingdom and Canada convened August 20 – 22 this year at the Oriental Hotel here to participate in the first International Research Conference on K to 12 Curriculum for 21st Century Learning: A Global Perspective from .

Department of Education (DepEd) Bicol regional director Ofelina Tuy said the three-day international conference has been divided into eight group sessions for 285 research papers.

She said the output of the conference will be submitted to the DepEd national office to serve as a basis of the policy making body in making decisions and policies for the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum.

Albay governor Joey Salceda expressed in his speech as the guest for the opening ceremony the support of the provincial government in the conduct of such programs to upgrade the education system in the country.

“Thus your coming to our province today to review, on a global perspective,  the K-12 curriculum and to make it updated to today’s learning systems is a very welcome event. Its benefits would accrue to the benefit of our students and our tutors. Rest assured of our government’s support for your endeavor during your short stay in Albay,” Salceda said.

He further stressed the importance of good education to achieve better society and advancement of civilization.

“I always believe in good education as a stepping stone for self development and for the achievement of a better society and the advancement of civilization,” he said.

The conference, Tuy added, is a sequel to the National Research Forum held in Naga City last year.
