Red Cross pushes for a 'Zero New HIV Infection, Zero-Death for AIDS'

NAGA CITY, Mar 4 (PIA) -- Enthused with the theme “Getting Zero to New HIV Infection, Zero Deaths from AIDS-related illness, Zero Discrimination,” the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Camarines Sur chapter spearheaded a three-day HIV Prevention Training for community volunteers at the PRC Training Hall here.
This is in line with the PRC’s effort to increase awareness on the prevention of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or HIV –AIDS. The training, which commenced on February 26 and ended Thursday, also aims to increase the reach of the PRC in line with its information dissemination advocacy and develop its capacity in pursuing HIV prevention activities.
Partakers included PRC Blood and Safety Service staff, PRC Safety Instructor and Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) volunteers, members of the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and from the Department of Education (DepEd).
Mariem C. Nedia, PRC Chapter Service Representative said PRC intends to seek the help of the members of the community though the Community Health Volunteers (CHV) in widely disseminating the information to curtail the rising incident of HIV AIDS in the country.
“We want to equip and provide our CHVs with relevant knowledge, attitude, and skills capabilities required to assist and support community-based HIV prevention activities,” Nidea said in an interview.
PRC-Camarines Sur Chapter Administrator Nanette Rodrigazo also said PRC is closely working with the community to ensure that they have at least a basic know-how on the prevention, care and support for HIV-related cases.
“It is important that members of the community understand the core of HIV care and prevention. This training also aims to enhance their attitude which they should exhibit towards dealing with HIV AIDS,” Rodrigazo added.
The STI coordinator from the rural health unit of Milaor and Person in Prostitution also attended the said training.(MAL/LSM - PIA5)
