Provincial women's summit set

VIRAC, Catanduanes, March 4 (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Catanduanes, through the Gender and Development Office, will spearhead the Provincial Women's Summit on March 07 at the Provincial Capitol Dome in time for the observance of the Women's Month this March.

The event marks the commitment of the said provincial office to pursue the establishment of a national and international order based on sustainable and equitable growth to facilitate the full development of women's potentials towards the improvement of the quality of their lives, their families and their communities.

This year’s celebration focused on highlighting women’s leadership roles, participation in-decision making, and participation in the political arena, peace-building and conflict resolution; building upon the gains achieved under existing mechanisms and institutions that support women and gender-responsive governance; and strengthening partnership with media in promoting women’s rights and in advocating to address gender issues.

The local government is likewise cognizant of women's efforts toward empowerment and self-determination, shall vigorously pursue and implement gender-responsive development policies, design an integrated gender and development support system and implement measures to protect and promote the rights of women.

Around 100 representatives of women's organizations in the province is expected to attend the one-day activity.

Among the topics to be discussed are: Gender sensitivity training orientation; budget, planning and surviving a disaster and violence against women and children or Republic 9262.

The theme for this year's celebration is: “Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan.” (MAL/EAB-PIA-5)
