Albay crafts comprehensive plan for war against drugs

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 10 (PIA) -- Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara has urged all local governments units and  other overnment agencies to develop a unified strategic strategy vital in the province’s anti-drug campaign in the wake of emerging problems due to the increasing number of personalities involved in peddling and use of illegal drug.

Bichara said the present protocol being utilized has no clear establishment in the roles of all concerned stakeholders, management while referral systems are not properly established yet with links to proper screening, assessment, and management of surrendering drug users still lacking.

The provincial government, according to the governor, will tie up with the Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol and the Malinao Treatment and Rehabilitation Center to conduct a two-day training activity among key personnel of local governments to remedy some gaps in the fight against illegal drugs and address other needs of personalities who submit themselves for reforms.

The stakeholders will train on "Rapid Screening, Assessment, and Management of Surrendering Drug Users in Bicol” on August 11-12, 2016 in Legazpi City.

"With such training plus other interventions, we hope that every city and municipality in Albay will have a formidable cast which will face the seemingly insurmountable task of properly managing the colossal turnout of surrendering drug users," Bichara said.

Bichara also proposed earlier during a meeting with the Provincial Peace and Order Council for the construction of a makeshift rehabilitation center using tents in Tula-tula, Ligao City to act as temporary shelter while more permanent and long-term solutions are being developed and implemented.

Bichara further called for a solid partnership from all concerned agencies to eradicate all presence of drugs in the province, including users and pushers who continually operate in Albay. (MAL/RCF- PIO-PGA/PIA5/Albay)
