DAET, Camarines Norte, June 16 (PIA) – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here urged CamNorteñeos to join the 2nd quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) slated on June 22 at 9:00 in the morning.

Deputy Provincial Fire Officer Percival Malate during the Talakayan sa PIA on air of the Camarines Norte Information Center said that the BFP will be holding the earthquake drill in schools and local government units offices in the different municipalities.

They will also encourage national government agencies and other entities to join the activity.

The drill or the # Pagyanig Challenge is a promotional strategy to popularize the ‘duck, cover and hold’ messaging applied during earthquake. At the national level this will be held at the GHQ, Grandstand, Camp Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City as the ceremonial site.

Malate also encouraged households to join the earthquake drill for them to practice the ‘duck, cover and hold’ within their family.

He said that during earthquake, a person should not keep himself in the comfort room or inside the cabinet because he might be trap, instead he should do the ‘duck, cover and hold’, go under the table and after the shaking find a way out to the open ground.

Along this line they also conduct trainings regularly on fire safety and suppression in schools through the Kiddie and Junior Fire Marshal and in the barangay through Barangay Fire Brigade wherein last year almost all the 282 were visited by the BFP.

On the other hand, Fire Officer Anna Khristina R. Talento, provincial administrative officer said that included in the training is the pre-fire planning particularly on the identification of water source in the community.

They also train the participants on the bucket relay specially in schools were majority have no fire extinguisher and in the far flung and island barangays which cannot be reach by their fire trucks.

She also advised the constituents to have their first aid kit, flashlights, drinking water, and whistle and among other things needed during emergencies.

The month of May is School Opening Fire Safety Month wherein before the start of school year, the BFP has conducted fire safety inspection in schools and participated in the Brigada Eskwela. (RBM-PIA5/Camarines Norte)
