Daniella Camonoga of Guinobatan wins first gold for Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY, Apr 12 (PIA) – Daniela Camonoga of Quibongbongan, Gunobatan Albay notched the first gold medal for the Bicol region in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa in Albay.

The 13 year old lass, also 13th of 16 siblings, topped the elementary girl’s shot put competition with a winning heave of 9.42 meters held yesterday at the Albay Sports and Tourism Complex in Bicol University.

Emgiel Duran of the Negros Island Region claimed the silver medal with her 9.15-meter mark while Western Visayas bet Valerie Cassandra took the bronze with 9.01m.

Camonoga earned her ticket to the Palaro as she finished second on the regional meet held in Camarines Sur last February.

The first gold winner for Bicol will be receiving P5, 000 cash incentive as promised by Albay Governor Joey Salceda for gold medal winners in the region. She is set to compete in the javelin throw 3:00pm today and discus throw 6:00am on Wednesday.

The standing 10.93 meters record for elementary girl’s shot put competition was made by Canny Amor Bartolome of former athletics region Southern Mindanao during the 1996 Palaro edition in General Santos City.(MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
