Virac launches “Green Hearth Program”

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb. 15, (PIA) –The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC), under the auspices of the municipal government here, launched the “Virac Green Hearth Program” that will pursue massive tree planting activities, especially in coastal area of barangay Balite in this town.

The greening project is pursuant to the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, otherwise known as RA 10121 on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.

Held on February 14, the activity was participated by the members of Virac MDRRMC’s, local government employees, representatives of local and national agencies and barangay officials of Balite.

Mariel Torzar, Virac MDRRMO chief, said that in line with the institutionalization of the program, MDRRMC has authorized the funding of annual reforestation fund focused at the municipal nursery on seedling production.

The grown treelings shall be planted on strategic locations at considered schedules in every month with specific theme according to momentous celebrations.

The launching activity was conducted with the theme: “Pagkamoot sa Inang Kalikasan”. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
