NAGA CITY. Feb. 29 (PIA) -- After a month-long implementation of various activities in the province, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Camarines Sur Statistics Office chief Clemente S. Manaog thanked everyone who supported their endeavors to make the celebration of Civil Registration Month a success.

Under the theme: “Makiisa..Makisali sa Dekadang CRVS,” PSA Camarines Sur provincial office conducted significant events simultaneous with activities conducted nationwide to raise the populace’s awareness on the importance on putting on records their vital events and civil status.

In keeping with the CRVS Decade aim of "getting every Juan and Juana in the picture", PSA CamSur conducted mobile registration activities even in far flung barangays to ensure that no one is left behind. They also hanged streamers, conducted free issuance of civil registry documents, attended mass weddings, symposiums and spearheaded similar information education campaign.

Several competitions like poster making contest and civil registration quiz   were also conducted to popularize the occasion’s importance and raise awareness among the partakers.

Updating of one’s status which form part of the civil registration process will help the recipient to have an easy access in availing basic services in government agencies and other offices.

Some of the information being documented during registration includes the person’s birth, marriage, death and his civil status. It aims to acknowledge his right to be recognized as citizen of a state or honoring his juridical or legal personality

Manaog specified that the celebration is being done every February of every year pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 issued in 1991.

“February of every year is declared Civil Registration Month to remind the citizenry of their duty to register acts and events concerning status of persons, and enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents.”

Proclamation 682 was affirmed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on the 28th of January 1991.

The said act is also in support of the Civil Registry law which necessitates the continuous and obligatory recording of births, marriages, and events concerning the status of Filipinos.  (MAL/LSM-PIA5/Camarines Sur)
