8 local MSMEs enrolled at DOST-SETUP technology upgrading, enterprise development

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 3 (PIA) – Eight local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have enrolled under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

DOST Bicol regional Office and the eight MSMEs recently entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to strengthen collaboration on technology upgrading and enterprise development.

DOST Bicol regional director Tomas Briñas said the SETUP is one of the agency’s banner program that pursues industry competitiveness and highly contributes to regional growth.

The MOA signing was carried out in different concerned Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs), led by their respective provincial S&T director and the proponents.

The newly-enrolled and additional SETUP firms/beneficiaries include Berton Pilinut Candy & Pastries for “Upgrading of Pilinut Candy Processing and Packaging Design” with P864,818.60 assistance; Ben’s Bakers Corporation for “Upgrading of Ben’s Bakers Corporation through Packaging Equipment and Adopting Food-Grade Facilities” with P758,900.00; Derick Soy Milk Products for “Upgrading of Soy Milk Production” with P76,000.00, all in Albay province.

In Camarines Norte, Nicole’s Food Product carries out “Production Upgrading of homemade native confectionaries” with P94,214.00 assistance.

In Masbate, Barotil Gun Repair, Welding and Machine Shop implements “Upgrading of Welding and Machine Shop Operation” with P466,000.00 allocation; Leo Artates Welding Shop for “Upgrading Machine Shop Operation of Leo Artates Welding Shop with P238,000.00; RICCA Meat Processing and Catering Services for Upgrading of Curing and Storage of Processed Meat” with P21,037.50 assistance.

In Sorsogon, the J & C Napili Store has “Productivity Enhancement of Bakery Operations” with P562,970.00 assitance

A total of 26 local MSMEs have since benefitted from DOST-SETUP for 2015.

Briñas said DOST Bicol is optimistic that more the technology upgrading and enterprise development can be achieved through the SETUP and be of assistance to young MSMEs for possible future S&T undertakings.  (MAL/POL-XTV-DOST5/PIA5)
