DOLE Bicol opens assistance center for distressed OFWs in Middle East

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol has assured assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families in the region who might be affected by the on-going tension in the Middle East through the OFW Assist Well Processing Center opened Friday last week.

“We want Bicolanos to know that we are ready for any Middle East concerns and they can come here for help,” DOLE Bicol assistant regional director Maria Karina Perida- Trayvilla said.

The Assist Well Processing Center will serve as a one-stop OFW center that will provide immediate assistance to distressed OFWs from the Middle East and their relatives.

It is located inside the office of DOLE National Reintegration Center for OFWs (DOLE-NRCO) and manned everyday by specially trained personnel coming from the concerned member agencies of the DOLE Regional Coordinating Council.

Affected OFWs in the region can access various services from the center such as stress debriefing or counseling, local and overseas referral/placement, livelihood assistance, legal assistance and conciliation services and competency assessment and training assistance.

Full communication facilities are also set up for the families left in the region to contact their loved ones in the Middle East.

Trayvilla said other concerned agencies are also invited to provide assistance.

“Our other attached agencies like the NLRC, PRC, NCMB and RTWPB are also expected to support the center. Although they will not physically man the center, these offices will also be invited to provide assistance whenever necessary,” she said.

The assistance center is open 8:00am to 6:00pm but might have 24/7 operations depending on the gravity of the tension in that region.

“We will analyze the number of Bicolano OFWs who are actually deployed in the Middle East and the gravity of the tension in that region. If there’s a need for the center to operate for 24/7 then we will do it,” she furthered.(MAL/SAA/DOLE5/PIA5/Albay)
