Albay achieves zero casualty goal vs Nona– Salceda

LEGAZPI CITY, Dec 15 (PIA) – Albay has again achieved its zero casualty goal at the onslaught of typhoon Nona which brought intense wind and rain to the province as it landed in Bulusan, Sorsogon 4:00PM yesterday.

“It is reasonable for Albay to declare that our communities together with our partners have achieved our "zero casualty goal during disaster" in the face of hazards of strong winds and heavy rainfalls from Typhoon Nona, possibly one of the most rapid cyclogenesis in our history – from an invest to near super typhoon to harass Albay,” said Albay governor Joey Salceda early morning today.

Salceda cited the people’s unity in prayers and preparations as the success formula in achieving the zero casualty goal of the province noting preemptive evacuation as the highest form of community prayer in obedience to God's command to avoid danger and temptations.

“In reality our people prayed Oratio Imperata together, they stood up, and helped each other in evacuation centers to overcome the rivers of difficulties and the tears of challenged dreams of our youth,” Salceda said.

He further stressed the need for DRR capacity to be instilled in every home and every person which has been done in the province through long years of DRR drills and trainings.

The governor noted Team Albay’s “whole of government, whole of society" approach which propelled immediate action for the province to return to normalcy as Nona weaken around 9:00PM as it cross over Burias Island in Masbate.

Suspension of classes and school outdoor activities has been lifted this morning as weather conditions improved. Classes in all levels resume tomorrow while work in public and private offices resume today.

Respective Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils (DRRM) has conducted simultaneous clearing and assessment operations in their areas of concern.
