APEC to re-implement 2% surcharge on overdue bills

LEGAZPI CITY, Sept 11 (PIA) --   The Albay Power Electric Corporation (APEC) has announced the re-implementation of the two percent surcharge on overdue bills effective October 1, 2015.

“We would like to inform all APEC consumers that starting October 1, 2015 there will be a strict regulation on the number of days allowed in paying electric bills as mandated by the Magna Carta for Electricity Consumers and Distribution Services and Open Access Rules (DSOAR) wherein all consumers are obliged to settle their monthly electricity bills nine days after receiving their Statement of Account (SOA) or bill,” said APEC general manager Manuel Imperial.

It will cover all unpaid APEC bills since February 2014 of high voltage, low voltage and residential customers.

“Unpaid bills from February 2014 to August 2015 shall bear a surcharge or late payment fee equal to 2% of the total amount due starting October 1, 2015. A 2% compounded monthly shall be applied for each month of non-payment thereafter,” Imperial said.

However for September 2015 bills and onwards, Imperial said the surcharge shall be applied to the total amount due if payment is received beyond the given term of nine days after receipt of the bill.

“A 2% compounded monthly rate shall be applied for every 30 days of non-payment thereafter,” he said.

Notice of disconnection/collection will be issued should consumers fail to pay their bills on the said date. They will be given another two days upon receipt of the notice to settle their accounts.

The applicable 2% surcharge shall be computed upon payment of bills at any authorized APEC payment centers.

These include APEC branch offices, business centers, Bayad center collection outlets and its business partners.(MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
