Albay pursues competency trainings for implementers of GAD programs, policies

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 13 (PIA) -- Albay's Gender and Development (GAD) Office and the GAD Focal Point System Technical Working Group (GFPS-TWG) has since July this year been conducting a series of provincewide orientation-training sessions and seminars to enhance the GAD competencies of implementers in the province’s three cities and 15 municipalities.

GFPS-TWG chair Cynthia Samalea said the orientation trainings aims to train the implementers among LGUs in developing gender responsive plans, policies, programs and activities (PPAs).

The series of activities, which started with the organization of their respective local GFPS, was launched in the municipalities of Bacacay, Camalig, Pioduran and Guinobatan which will undergo the successive training sessions until such time that they can level off the mainstreaming of their 5-percent budget to GAD-related PPAs, write a workable GAD plan and draft their own GAD Code.

According to Samalea, after the training sessions attended mostly by department heads -- including the Philippine National Police Women’s Desk and members of the Sangguniang Bayan, the participants are also expected to conduct said training activities for their respective barangays for total GAD awareness.

She furthered that in order to sustain the initial gains of the project, the replication of the good practices in the localization of the MCW must be pursued in all municipalities provincewide.

"The Albay GAD Office, in partnership with Philippine Council for Women-AECID, shall continue to support the limited gender mainstreaming initiatives of these municipalities and provide technical assistance until such time that the LGUs are capable of working on the sustainability of its GAD programs,” she said.  (MAL-PIA5/Albay)
