Young cops top 3 in PNP Spelling Bee

By Bennie A. Recebido

SORSOGON CITY, May 7 (PIA) –Three young police officers from Sorsogon have made it to the regional Spelling Bee at Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola, the regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police in Legazpi City.

The three finished in the top three in the series of elimination rounds held last April 14 at the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office.

Public Safety Company’s PO1 Rumin B. Respeto emerged champion, while PO2 Sheryl L. Marbella of Operations and Plans Branch and PO1 Noryle Dicen of Police Community Relations Branch clinched the first runner up and second runner up titles, respectively.

The PNP Spelling Bee is not only a competition but also an effort to improve the public satisfaction with police, Senior Superintendent Bernard M. Banac, Sorsogon’s police provincial director, said.

“This event spotlights our goal to reverse the pervading misconceptions that PNP personnel are inept, unqualified and unskilled,” Banac said. “Misspelled words, wrong grammar, and other communication pitfalls which are frequently seen in some police correspondence, do not help in correcting these misconceptions.”

He expressed optimism the event will reinforce the PNP’s goal of developing a “responsive and highly professional police organization.” (BARecebido/EAD/ PIA-5/Sorsogon)
