Gov't, private-initiated scholarship programs benefit 3,758 CSU scholars for SY 2014-2015

VIRAC, Catanduanes, May 05, (PIA)- Some 3,758 students of the Catanduanes State University (CSU) benefitted from the university’s scholarship programs in partnership with other government agencies, non-government organizations, and private benefactors for School Year 2014-2015.

According to the data released by the Office of the Director for Student Support Services (OSSS), the largest number of merit scholars was sponsored by the municipal government of Virac (129) followed by the Vision Bank (39) and the Agricultural and Rural Development for Catanduanes, Inc. (ARDCI) (38).

On the other hand, the largest number of non-merit scholars was sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through its Student Financial Assistance Programs (StuFAPS) or the Tulong-Dunong Program and the Expanded Students’ Grant-in-Aid Poverty Program Alleviation (ESGP-PA) covering 1,742 CSU scholars. This was followed by the Provincial Government of Catanduanes through the CELY Provincial Financial Assistance Program (1,289) and CSU Institutional Scholarship Programs (309).

 A full scholar is entitled to free tuition and miscellaneous fees plus a monthly stipend while a partial scholar receives financial assistance that ranges from Php30,000 to Php2,000 depending on the coverage of the scholarship program and the result of the evaluation conducted by the benefactor.  (MAL/EAB/DDBS-CSU/PIA5/Catanduanes)
