PBM pushes for registration, vaccination of dogs

VIRAC,  Catanduanes, April 1 (PIA) – A resolution requiring dog owners to register and let their dogs be vaccinated has been filed by a Provincial Board Member (PBM) before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

In the resoliton filed by PBM Jorge C. Reyes, all dogs ages three months and above shall be required to be registered and be vaccinated to avoid rabies.

Said resoultion was also in line with the creation of Municipal at Barangay Rabies Control Committees at Municipal Anti-Rabies Task Force in support to the rational implementation of the National Rabies Control Program.

Stated in the resoultion are the responsibilities of dog owners. If approved, an annual registration fee of P30.00 per dogwill be paid to the barangay for the first dog and an addtional of P100.00 annual fee each for the other dogs.

Amount which will be collected by the barangay will be used for the Rabies Prevention and Control Program of the respective barangay.

According to Dr. Jane C. Rubio, Provincial Veterinarian, Barangay Chairmans will be tasked to create the Barangay Rabies Control Committee (BRCC) which shall lead the registration of dogs in their area of jurisdiction. They will also be required to report to the Municipal Rabies Control Committee (MRCC) which shall be headed by the respective Municipal Mayor.

Rubio said that aside from preventing rabies, the resolution will also promote the welfare of the dogs. (EAB/PIA Catanduanes)
