VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb, 06 (PIA) - To create awareness on the importance of civil REGISTRATION, the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) is celebrating the Civil REGISTRATION Month this February 2015 with the theme, “Sama ka sa CRVS groupie.”
According to Maria Dulce C. Padayao, statistician II/caretaker, PSA Catanduanes provincial office, the 11 Municipal Civil Registrar’s Office (OMCR) of the province prepared several activities in line with the celebration like display of streamer, one day free issuances of civil registers, assist in mass wedding, and conduct of mobile REGISTRATION and information dissemination to selected groups, associations, and barangay constrituents.
The celebration is pursuant to proclamation No. 682 “Declaring the Month of February of every year as Civil REGISTRATION Month” which was signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on January 28,1991.
The observance of Civil REGISTRATION Month aims to remind the citizenry of their duty to register acts and events concerning the status of persons, enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents and underscore the necessity for Congress to provide adequate funds for enforcement and administration of laws on civil registration.
The system of civil registration was established in the Philippines on the 27th of February 1931 through the enactment of Commonwealth Act 3753, “An act to Establish a Civil Register”, It requires the continuous and compulsory recording of births, deaths, marriages and other acts and events concerning the civil status of persons.
