SORSOGON CITY, Feb 16 (PIA) – To strengthen partnership and mobilize action from the various stakeholder’s of the local community, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Sorsogon will hold a one-day Stakeholders' Forum on Climate Change Adaptation Advocacy (People’s Day) on February 17, 2015 at the Villa Isabel, this city.
Around 100 participants composed of the local chief executives, environment and natural resources officers, local leaders, church, youth, academe, media, agri-fishery workers, transport, business, and representative of other sectors of the society are expected to participate.
The forum aims to strengthen public awareness to climate change concerns and to government’s environmental agenda, popularize and strengthen adaptation and mitigation measures in response to climate change, inspire and motivate active cooperation and participation (prescribed behaviors and efforts), and facilitate partnerships with public and private communities.
Likewise, the DENR in its bid to bring its agency closer to the people, technical personnel from the Land Management Section, Forest Management Section, Protected Area and Wildlife Section, Environmental Management Section, Mines Section, and National Greening Program will be around to assist the people in their queries and the services they would want to avail during the day.
Various topics will be discussed by the heads of the various divisions of the DENR Regional Office V such Lands Administration and Management for Economic Development and to guarantee land tenure to the local populace; Bio-Diversity Protection through Empowered Citizenry for the Sustainable Use and Enjoyment of Present and Future Generations; National Greening Program and other Related Environmental Laws; Solid Waste Management; and Resilient Species vis-à-vis Development of Protocols to Perfect Local Technologies re Shift from the Use of Exotic Species to Indigenous or Native Species Sustainable Mineral Resources Development for Economic Growth and Countryside Development.
PIA Director General, Jose Mari Oquinena is expected to grace the stakehoders' forum.
It can be recalled that the DENR and PIA officially launched last year a campaign in Climate Change Adaptation Advocacy under the theme: “Nagbabago na ang Panahon. Panahon na para Magbago”. (MAL/BAR-PIA5/Sorsogon)
