Puraran surfer among winners in 2014 surfing tilt

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Nov. 4 (PIA) -- A local surfer from Puraran, Baras, Catanduanes was declared champion in one of the categories during the 2014 Catandungan Festival Surfing Competition.

Ken Tanael, of Puraran, grabbed first place in the Grommet division, with Daisy Valdez of La Union dominating the Wahine Open and John Mark Tokong of Siargao, Surigao del Norte as champion in the Open division.

According to Mrs. Carmel B. Garcia, Provincial Tourism Officer, Tanael’s win is very important adding that Puraran is not only the best place for surfing but the place for best surfers as well.

A total of 47 surfers from Sorsogon, Baler, La Union, Siargao, Camarines Norte and Catanduanes joined the contest sponsored by the municipality of Baras through Mayor Rodel Abichuela, the provincial government, Department of Tourism and private companies.

The surfing tilt started on October 8, 2014 at Puraran, Baras and concluded on October 11, 2014 as part of Catandungan Festival 2014. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
