DSWD, PYAP step up youngsters’ awareness on proper nutrition, disaster preparedness

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug 15 (PIA) – Some 112 out-of-school youth and youth service from 22 municipalities in the Bicol region joined the recently held Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) 40th Foundation and Nutrition Summit  at the Kawa Kawa Hill, Tuburan, Ligao City.

“PYAP Maabilidad! Kalamidad Pagahandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan,” was the theme for this year’s celebration expressing the call for the youth to widen their awareness on proper nutrition and disaster preparedness.

DSWD Bicol Director Arnel Garcia said the activity further aims to engage the out-of-school youths in activities that will promote their leadership potentials and enhance their personalities.

“We want to engage the out-of-school-youths in activities that will promote their leadership potentials and also to enhance their personalities,” he said.

The participants were oriented on proper nutrition, basic life support, disaster preparedness and response.

Other activities during the summit were poster making contest, slogan writing, Nutri Quiz, Lakan at Lakambini ng PYAP and Nutrition Idol.

PYAP is a duly constituted barangay based organization of the out-of school-youth between 15-24 years old who are clientele of the DSWD.

The PYAP was first incorporated on July 29, 1974 with the SEC under the name of Pag-asa Youth Movement Inc. and thus become an affiliate organization of the DSWD.

It is organized nationwide and is federated from the municipal, city/provincial, regional and national levels and is a duly constituted barangay based organization of the out-of school-youths between 15-24 years of age.

The PYAP Federation of different levels serves as a strategy that provides forum to discuss youth issues and concerns related to their projects and come up with solutions/recommendations addressed to both the youth and other system involved in program planning and implementation.
