MANILA, July 19 (PIA) --The U.S. Government has provided approximately P6.5 million ($150,000) to help Typhoon Glenda victims in Albay and Sorsogon provinces return home and recover from the devastation brought about by thestorm.
Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg said, "On behalf of the American people, we extend our deepest condolences for the devastation and loss of life caused by Typhoon Glenda. The U.S. Government stands ready to assist the Philippine authorities in helping affected families bounce back from this tragedy."
The U.S. Embassy Manila's United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will work with World Vision International to distribute 600 shelter return kits—containing galvanized iron sheets, plywood, nails, blankets, mosquito nets, and plastic mats—to help families rebuild homes damaged during the storm.
Ambassador Goldberg likewise commended the efforts of the national and local governments and the cooperation of communities which helped to minimize the loss of life before during the storm.
"We will continue to work with our counterparts to help the Philippines mitigate, prepare for, and respond to natural disasters as we work on achieving inclusive and resilient growth," added Ambassador Goldberg.
On July 17, the US Government also announced it would provide Php107.5 million ($2.5 million) in assistance to build community resilience to flood and other disaster events in Metro Manila.
The support, provided through USAID, will make training and other forms of assistance available to communities in 15 high-risk, flood-prone barangays in Rizal and the National Capital Region (NCR), directly benefiting an estimated 43,200 people. (MAL/US Embassy/PIA5)
