P6.6B worth dev’t projects underway for Almasor tourism

LEGAZPI CITY, Apr 11 (PIA) – Development projects woth P6.6B has been allotted by the Aquino administration for the Albay-Masbate-Sorsogon (Almasor) tourist area, said Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda.

The governor made the announcement Tuesday this week as guest speaker during the opening of the Rodeo Festival in Masbate slated this April 8 -12.

Salceda said of the P6.6 billion worth projects allotted for Almasor, P3.5 billion went to Masbate to beef up its tourism and agricultural production.

Part of the flagship tourism projects are road projects called Almasor Tourism Development Area including the P3.6 billion Southern Luzon International Airport in Daraga, P900 million road projects in Masbate, P1.25 billion in Sorsogon and P1.56 billion in Albay.

The road projects intended to boost the said tourism areas have been included in the 2014 General Appropriations Act of the provincial government of Albay.

Salceda earlier said with the creation of the Almasorta, infra projects which were difficult to fund before became financially feasible considering that the base is not just one province but all three and that the infra projects linked to tourism has a significant annual budget in the Department of Public Works and Highways which is under the direction of the Department of tourism as directed by the Aquino administration.

Salceda, also the concurrent Bicol Regional Development Council Chairman, is the convenor of the Almasor Tourism Alliance which aims to integrate the world-class tourism potentials of Albay, Masbate and Sorsogon into one tourist destination package through a comprehensive promotion strategy.

Albay’s Daragang Magayon Festival and Masbate’s Rodeo Festival are currently ongoing this month.

 Magayon Festival started March 24 until April 30 this year.

Both festivals showcase the Almasor tourism package highlighting not only the breath-taking tourism spots but also the distinct culture and heritage that unites and embraces all Bicolanos iregardless of geographical differences.  

Salceda himself assured Masbateños of his support in integrating Masbate into the development efforts of the region.

“Whereas, before, you had felt not being a part of mainland Bicol but instead belonging to the Visayas regions, we have made you realized that you are very much a part of the Bicol region and, together, we will progress as one,” Salceda said.(MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
