Caceres media on Lenten recollection

BY: ANA-LIZA S. MACATANGAY

NAGA CITY, April 14 (PIA) ---  Archbishop of Caceres Most Rev. Rolando Tria Tirona, O.C.D., D.D. reminded Camarines Sur media practitioners of the significant commitment and responsibility that each one should contemplate as communicators especially during these holy days when the entire Christendom observes the Lenten Season.

This, as members of the media from various media outlets – print, broadcast and television took their time off to attend the Lenten recollection sponsored by the Archdiocese of Caceres at Villa Caceres, here during the weekend.

Tirona accentuated the critical role that media plays in forming public opinion through the news and information that they deliver to their audience. He said that there are three important things that each media person needs to ponder on before he can be an effective communicator.

“First, you need to have a dialogue with yourself, an awareness of your identity. Next, you need to discern. That is the process of trying to understand, weight and clarify issues before making a decision and the third one is direction. This means that we need to be aware of the critical and powerful responsibility that is in our hands,” Tirona added.

The good Archbishop also stated that members of the media also lead the people, the reason why it is important that each one is also guided by an educated conscience.  He also reminded everyone that as we remembers the sacrifice of our creator, we should also make it a point to realize that Christ is the center of this occasion.

After the Archbishop’s one-hour talk, attendees were given an opportunity to confess and attend the anticipated mass.

Fr. Louie Occiano, Caceres Commission on Communication Chairman stated in his homily the virtue of consistency.

“While we acknowledge that this is the most prayerful time of the year, we should also take the challenge of making this seasonal opportunity to be a one-time act of kindness last and linger. We should continue to be prayerful and pious everyday of our lives.”

The recollection also supports this year’s theme of the Year of the Laity : “Filipino-Catholic Laity: Called to be Saints..Sent forth as Proclaimers of the Gospel.”

The Archdiocese of Caceres also invites the faithful to contemplate and participate in the church’s activities this Lenten season.  (MAL/LSM- PIA5/CamSur)
