VIWAD starts groundworks for Rapid Sand Filtration Project in Catanduanes town

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Jan. 28 (PIA) - Virac Water District (VIWAD) has commenced groundworks for its Rapid Sand Filtration Project in Sitio Cawayan of Calatagan Tibang village here will address the problem on water turbidity especially on rainy season .

VIWAD general manager Merci Mendez said that the project is part of the rehabilitation works of the Cawayan Treatment Facility that include the use of of rapid sand filter or rapid gravity filterin water purification and is commonly used in municipal drinking water facilities as part of a multiple-stage treatment system.

The project which is expected to be fully functional in six months time was funded from Internally Generated Fund of the agency at a cost of P7.85 Million.

According to VIWAD administration, the rehabilitation of the abovementioned facility is just one of their priority projects that will be implemented to assure potability of water in the municipality.

Furthermore, to prevent the drying up of vital water sources in Padurog, Sibanhan and Cawayan, VIWAD already implemented necessary measures also for the protection of water shed areas.

VIWAD is the major supplier of water to various concessionaires in Virac town and some neighboring areas. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
