SSS launches AlkanSSSya program in Virac

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Nov. 30, (PIA) - Another 150 tricyle operators and drivers in this municipality will soon be enrolled  in the AlkanSSSiya program of the Social Security System (SSS) following the program launching on November 28, 2013 at Virac Sports Gymnasium here.

According to SSS Catanduanes provincial manager Divine T. Avila, the number of already enrolled in the program in the province and the prospects who signify their interest to avail of the program manifest that the AlkanSSSiya is gaining its ground to benefit more.

Avila also urged other tricycle drivers, members of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) and as well as fish and meat vendors to become part of the program.

The program provides Filipinos especially those in the informal sectors the needed protection by saving up for the P312-monthly SSS membership contribution where an individual or tricycle driver is encouraged to save a minimum of P11 a day in an Alkansya unit boxes utilized as piggybanks that would add up to a total pf P312 in a month.

By paying at least three months of contribution, an individual is already entitled to avail of a sickness or maternity claim, and a funeral claim of P20,000 for a deceased member.

If a member has paid at least 36 months of contributions, he or she could claim for disability pension, or if the member dies, a pension will be given to the wife or children up to 21 years old. They can also apply for salary, housing and educational loans.
