DSWD Bicol assures continuous distribution of food packs to Yolanda victims

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov 20 (PIA) --   The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Bicol region assures continuous distribution of family food packs to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Eastern Samar.

“The relief distribution in these areas will continue for five days to assure that the goods will reach the distressed families,” DSWD Bicol director Arnel Garcia said.

Some 24, 664 food packs have been handed out by DSWD workers to typhoon affected families in nine municipalities and one city in Eastern Samar.

Garcia said these municipalities are Quinapondan, Balangiga, Lawaan, General Macarthur, Giporlos, Salcedo, Hernani, Llorente and Maydolong and Borongan City in Eastern Samar.

Seventeen military and private trucks carried these packs Sunday last week.

There were 11,296 food packs also shipped last week to Guiuan, Taft and Balangiga in Eastern Visayas.

Each food pack amounting to P257. 30  contains three kilos of rice, four cans of sardines, two cans of corned beef, one can of Vienna sausage and ten pieces of coffee.

“We will produce more family food packs out of 10,000 sacks of NFA rice for the coming days,” Garcia added.

Currently, DSWD Bicol has deployed a total of 78 employees to assist in the disaster operations and will continue to deploy more staff to aid the victims of the super typhoon. (MAL/SAA/DSWD5/PIA5)
