DPWH Bicol sets up Lakbay Alalay 24/7 for Undas

LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office in Bicol has activated anew a total of 31 motorist assistance center (MAC) across the region in anticipation to the influx of motorists in time for this year’s Undas.

DPWH 5 regional director Danilo E. Dequito has directed the reactivation of the motorist assistance teams to in every district office of the agency to man the centers commencing on Wednesday, October 30, until November 4, Monday.

MAC, dubbed “Lakbay Alalay”, is carried out in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Philippine National Police (PNP) and local governments in the six provinces of Bicol region.

MACs will be set up in conspicuous locations along Bicol’s arterial roads, including Camarines Norte in a) Tabugon Section, K0248, Junction Andaya Highway; Camarines Sur in a) DPWH Field Office, Gaongan, Sipocot, b) GAD Building, Pamplona (K0418+100), c) Concepcion Grande, Naga City (K0439+820) or in front of the Traffic Management Group (TMG) Headquarters, d) Sta. Teresita, Baao - in front of DPWH Camarines Sur 4th District Engineering Office (DEO), e) Lourdes Young, Nabua - in front of Nabua Cemetery, f) Caraycayon, Tigaon in front of DPWH Camarines Sur 3rd DEO;

MACs in Albay are located in – a) Paulog, Ligao in front of DPWH 3rd DEO, b) Busay, Daraga (K0522+050), c) Basud, Sto. Domingo (K0540+005);

In Sorsogon, MACs is set up in – a) Dona Pepita Park, Brgy. Bucalbucalan, and San Pedro Multi-Purpose Brgy. Hall, Irosin (K0621+800).

Seven MACs are also in operation in Catanduanes and 12 in Masbate,” Dequito said.

The centers will be manned by engineers, car mechanics, heavy equipment operators, and other service crews who will give free roadside emergency repair assistance to motorists during the long holidays.

At the DPWH Bicol regional office in Barangay Rawis here, the agency will maintain  a skeletal workforce from Maintenance Division (Tel. #482-0429) that will man the office to receive reports from field offices and to render emergency services that may be required during the said holidays.

All district engineers, added Dequito, are instructed to ensure that all national roads, particularly those leading to public and private cemeteries are thoroughly maintained.

Appropriate informative/directional signs and traffic advisories are also already installed along the roads while ongoing projects along national roads are being closely monitored to avoid road hazards.  (MAL/LVCastaneda-DPWH5/PIA5)
