DPWH reactivates assistance centers for Penafrancia festivities

LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 18 (PIA) -- With the anticipated influx of motorists and vehicles to bring devotees and visitors to the festivities for the feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in Naga City on September 22, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bicol has reactivated starting today the District Motorist Assistance Centers in the province of Camarines Sur.

DPWH Bicol regiona director Danilo Dequito said this program dubbed“Lakbay Alalay” will be implemented until September 23 in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP) and local government unit (LGU) officials.

Four assistance centers manned by engineers, car mechanics, equipment operators and other service crews are located along the arterial roads of Camarines Sur to give free roadside emergency repair and assistance to motorists.

Motorists in need of assistance can stop by in front of the following offices: 5th District Engineering field Office (DEO) in Gaongan Sipocot, Traffic Mangement Group headquarters in Conception Grande Naga City, DPWH Camarines Sur 4th DEO and DPWH Camarines Sur 3rd DEO in Caraycayon Tigaon.

Dequito added roaming units are also assigned to monitor activities along the major routes particularly the stretch of Daang Maharlika.

At the DPWH regional office, a skeletal workforce from the maintenance division will be receiving reports from the field offices and will be rendering emergency services required on the specified dates.

All district engineers in the region are also instructed to fasttrack necessary road maintenance activities including installation of legible informational and directional signs along national road networks. (MAL/SAA/LVC-PIA5/Albay)
