CSU to lead coastal clean-up

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Sept. 17, (PIA) - As part of its commitment to the conservation and protection of the environment, Catanduanes State University (CSU) will once again spearhead the 2013 International Coastal Clean-Up on September 21, 2013.

International Coastal Cleanup is the largest volunteer effort for ocean's health which is being held annually every third Saturday of September where people around the world gather on beaches, coasts, rivers, waterways and underwater dive sites to remove trash and record information on the debris collected.

It aims to aid in better waste management policies/plans, product packaging designs and in stirring environmental consciousness among the people.

According to Dr. Maria S. Tugano, CSU Director for Extension Services,the activity in the province will start at 7:00 in the morning to 12:00 NN at Virac shorelines.

Participants are advised to provide themselves clean-up materials like glove, btooms, empty bags/sacks for waste collection & segregation.

Segregated wastes shall be recorded using ICC data cards and collected wastes will be hauled by the municipal garbage truck of Virac.

Before the clean-up kick off, a registration of participants will be held at Virac town Plaza which shall also serve as the assembly area for participants.

Moreover, Dr. Tugano is calling for the participation of government agencies, non-government agencies/organizations, students, and employees.
