VIRAC, Catanduanes, August 29 (PIA) – Around 53 campus journalists and advisers attended the basic training workshop for student journalists that will equip them the knowledge and skills in various facets of journalism and communications practice and establish efficient groundwork in publication management.
The gathering of student journalists on Tuesday, Aug. 27, was organized by the CSU Statesman and CSU Public Relations and Information Services
CSU Statesman, the official tertiary school publication of CSU is an award-winning publication bagging awards in Regional and National Journalism confab.
According to its CSU Statesman technical adviser, Mr. Gerry S. Rubio, the activity is a small step towards bigger goals, like institutionalizing training as a component of the publication operations. He also said that it was part of the publication’s post 20th Year celebration.
Participants were students from the school publications of the different colleges in the University, Catanduanes Colleges and some secondary schools in Virac.
Topics discussed include News Writing, Sports Writing, Editorial Writing, Literary Writing, Photography, Feature Writing, Editorial Cartooning, Opinion Writing and Financial Management in Student Publication Setting.
Speakers came from the local media and former senior editors who were tapped to speak in their field of specialization.
According to the participants, aside from the additional knowledge that they gained from the training on the different fields of journalism, the information provided by the lecturers will be a great help to the improvement of their respective publications. (MAL/EAB-5/PIA Catanduanes)
