CSU studes among PH delegation in ASEAN Workshop in Thailand

VIRAC, Catanduanes, June 24 (PIA) -- Two students of Catanduanes State University (CSU) will be part of the Philippines’ delegation in the “Asean Workshop on the Role of Youth in Green Consumption: Stepping Forward to One Community” to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on July 14-22.

Bren Garette Z. Rivera, a third year student of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English and Jann Ursula Aree S. Ibones, and third year student of Business Administration Major in Financial Management were nominated by CSU to be its representative in the said activity along with two students of the Far Eastern University, Catarman, Northern Samar.

In a letter sent to CSU, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said the university was chosen by the Environmental Management Bureau of DENR after being declared as champion in regional and national finalist in the tertiary level category of the 2011 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools.

The Environmental Management Bureau of DENR serves as the National Focal Point in the Philippines for the ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education.

The event will be hosted and organized by the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of The Royal Thai Government.

The activity has the following objectives: To provide knowledge and understanding on the main concept of green consumption and its related issues to ASEAN youth, in particular the situation and good practice in Thailand;

To encourage ASEAN youth to exchange views and ideas regarding green consumption and to examine ways for further cooperation and commitment in the ASEAN region based on the power of youth and; To support the role of youth in environmental sustainability in ASEAN region.

Each country is requested to make a ten-minute presentation concerning green consumption situation and its good practices in respective countries.

A total of 56 participants, 20 of which from Thailand and four from each of the other ASEAN member countries are expected to attend the workshop. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
